SURRENDER
2024
These two sculptures are part of my Surrender series, which reflects on the delicate balance between holding on to power and the inevitable moment of letting it go. The pieces capture both the tension and grace of this transition, with flowing, organic shapes that appear to simultaneously form and dissolve—evoking the act of release.
Each section of clay was meticulously hand-rolled and cut from thin slabs. The construction process is slow and deliberate, as the clay must reach the ideal stage of dryness to support its own weight. This fragility influences the final shape of the sculpture, with certain areas collapsing or tightening as the form evolves. The process requires surrendering to both time and the unpredictability of the outcome.
